Visually Divine

Before I begin the explanation of my work, I would like to inform you all that my spiritual background is paganism and my creations were heavily influenced by this.
I knew that I wanted to make two portraits symbolizing deity but I wanted them to be abstract without any facial features that were visibly obvious.

                                           Guardian of Life

When I began this painting, my focus was on displaying an image of God who is protective, down to Earth, and masculine. Because of this, I felt it was important to make His facial image black. I feel that my decision spoke of all three qualities that I was going for. I put a sun behind Him because the star means strength, heat, and power to me, which is what I was also going for.  The red background defines his brute side and the blue splatter symbolizes the connection from Him to humanity.

                                            Mother of All

"The Guardian of Life" was what lead me into my next piece called "Mother of All." I really liked the background in my first deity image and so I decided to make it a theme. Before I chose a background color I had to think about where I was going with Her. I chose the triple moon image, which is a popular representation to describe the Goddess in Her three aspects (Maiden, Mother, and Crone) joined in a unified wholeness.Taking the symbol into consideration, I then knew that I wanted a black void to speak of Her vastness. This inspired me to put the Earth behind her. The Earth being covered by the triple moon image symbolizes my home, which is where I feel completely surrounded by Her. My goal was to show a realistic and true perception of my relationship with the Goddess. The Mother of All is the Goddess of the World.

When I finally decided that both of the paintings were complete, I put them away and took a fresh look at them the next morning. I was completely satisfied with my work. I really feel I achieved my goal of displaying what deity means to me. These two pieces are my very first paintings that I have decided to sell to the public. They are both available at Starcrafts in La Mesa, California; for purchase.  Each painting is made from acrylic on a 9x12 canvas and sprayed with finish to preserve their appearances. Both are signed by me.
